Jewish Heritage: 8 Days Tour

Day 1: Travel to Israel

Departure from place of destination to Tel Aviv. Enjoy a nice meal in the airplane.

Day 2: Galilee

Drive north along the Israeli Mediterranean coastline to Caesarea, once the roman capital of the region. Tour the excavated Crusaders’ city, the aqueduct and the amphitheater, which has been restored and is now a popular & active concert venue. Proceed to Haifa for a panoramic view from Mt. Carmel and visit “AF AL PI CHEN”, the Naval Museum of the illegal immigration to Israel at the time of the British mandate. Drive to Acre to walk along the old harbor and local market; Continue to the northernmost point of Israel at Rosh Hanikra – on the border with Lebanon. Descend by cable and walk inside the limestone grottoes – a cool natural phenomena. Overnight in a Kibbutz guesthouse.

Day 3: Tzefat – Caesarea Philipii (Banias)

Drive to Safed (Tzefat), consider the forth Holy city in Israel; visit the two most important synagogues of Tzefat: Joseph Caro and the Ari Synagogues; stroll around the Safed’s famous artist’s quarter. Proceed to enjoy a Jeep tour towards the Golan. Ascend (by car) the Golan Heights and stop at an observation point at the Syrian border with view over the city of Kuneitra, and the Syrian territory. Visit Tel Facher, a former Syrian army camp and on for a short walk in the Banias Springs. Next, a visit to Tel-Hai to see the “roaring lion” monument commemorating the heroic battle of Josef Trumpeldor and his comrades in 1920. Overnight in a kibbutz guesthouse. Meet with a Kibbutz member and learn about their unique lifestyle. Overnight in Tiberias.

Day 4: Beit She’an – Jerusalem

Drive to Tiberias on the shores of the Sea of Galilee – the Kinnereth to visit Rambam’s Grave (optional); Proceed to Beit Shean, the biggest archeological park in Israel with beautiful excavations from Roman and Byzantine periods. Proceed to visit Beit Alpha to see the beautiful mosaic floor of a synagogue from the Byzantine period. On to Gan Hashlosha, (Sachne) where you will have an opportunity to enjoy in the water springs located at the foot of the Gilboa Mountain, the famous mountain on which King Saul was killed in the battle against the Philistines. Continue via the Jordan Valley to Jerusalem; Stop at Mount Scopus for a blessing as you enter the city. Overnight in Jerusalem.

Day 5: Jerusalem

Day 6: Jerusalem – Old City

Tour the Old City of Jerusalem. Start with a visit of the King David Tomb on Mount Zion. Walk along the Cardo, the ancient Roman Road ; Visit the four Sephardic synagogues in the Jewish Quarter restored after 1967 war.  Tour the Kottel Tunnels; Visit the Davidson Center and walk to the local Arab bazaa. Drive by the Knesset, Israel’s Parliament and see the famous Menorah with its Biblical emblems. Proceed to visit the Israel Museum, the Shrine of the Book where the Dead Sea scrolls are housed and the new Holyland model – a miniature replica of Jerusalem as it was during the Second Temple period. Overnight in Jerusalem.

Day 7: The Dead Sea – Qumran

Drive via Edomim Road into the Judean Desert. Stop at Qumran, the site where the Dead Sea scrolls were found. Continue to Massada, ascend by cable car and tour the ancient Herodian Fortress ; visit the remains of the walls, palaces, synagogue and the bathhouses. Descend by cable car. Next, stop for lunch, Dead Sea swim (dip) and Spa facilities in one of the leading hotels in the area. Return to Jerusalem. Overnight in Jerusalem.

Day 8 – Yad Vashem

Enjoy seeing the Bar-Mitzvah ceremonies at the Kottel. Continue to Mea Shearim and learn about the unique lifestyle of the ultra-orthodox Jewish communities. Drive to Mount Hertzel , Israel’s Military Cemetery and visit at Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial. Proceed to tour “Ammunition Hill”, a former Jordanian army stronghold , conquered by the Israeli army in the six day war – today a national memorial site and museum. Transfer to airport.
